Manchester, UK, 3 April 2025
Extending more than a decade of collaboration, Landis+Gyr (SIX:LAND) and Centrica Smart Meter Assets (CSMA) have signed a new three-year agreement to supply smart electricity and gas meters, further advancing the UK’s smart energy transition. This latest commitment reflects a shared vision for a more efficient, connected, and sustainable energy system, ensuring households and businesses continue to benefit from improved energy management.
Landis+Gyr has been a key technology provider in the UK’s smart meter rollout for over a decade, working alongside British Gas and Centrica to accelerate adoption across homes and businesses. The UK’s smart metering programme has already led to the installation of over 37 million meters. These smart meters play a critical role in enhancing energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and empowering consumers to better control their energy use and costs.
Smart meters are a key enabler of the UK’s net-zero ambitions, delivering real-time insights that help consumers and businesses optimise energy use, cut waste, and lower costs. By integrating millions of connected smart meters into the grid, the energy system becomes more efficient, responsive, and capable of supporting cleaner energy sources. This data-driven approach not only enhances day-to-day energy management but also strengthens the foundation for a more flexible, resilient, and sustainable energy system for the future.
At the end of 2024, 60% of domestic electricity and gas meters were smart meters, with an additional 58% of non-domestic meters also upgraded. With over 34 million smart meters now connected to the central communication system, the UK is making significant strides in digitalising its energy network. Landis+Gyr has been at the forefront of this transformation, supplying more than 21 million smart meters to Great Britain’s energy suppliers over the past decade.
Gareth Openshaw, Vice President of CSMA, commented:
"Landis+Gyr has been a valued partner to Centrica in our smart meter programme across the UK for over a decade. We're delighted to have extended our longstanding partnership to provide electricity and gas meters for a further three years. This demonstrates our continued confidence in Landis+Gyr alongside our commitment to continue to deliver our smart meter programme to benefit homes and businesses across the UK."
Simon Egan, Managing Director of Landis+Gyr UK and Ireland, added:
"We‘ve been privileged to work alongside Centrica over the past decade, delivering innovative solutions and driving the success of the UK's smart meter programme. We are thrilled to extend this remarkable partnership for another three years. This contract is a testament to the strong trust and collaboration we've built, and we look forward to continuing to support CSMA in strengthening the smart meter infrastructure to benefit homes and businesses nationwide."
This partnership extension underscores Landis+Gyr’s long-term investment in the UK’s smart metering ecosystem, ensuring that both electricity and gas meters continue to play a central role in the transition to a smarter, more efficient energy grid. With a legacy of innovation and a firm commitment to reliability and connectivity, Landis+Gyr and CSMA are shaping the future of the UK’s smart energy landscape. As the demand for smarter, more efficient energy solutions grows, this partnership ensures that homes and businesses will continue to benefit from a modern, responsive, and sustainable energy infrastructure for years to come.
