Island Energy Ltd and Landis+Gyr (SIX: LAND) have signed an agreement to install a grid intelligence platform for the utility and its customers featuring industry-leading grid sensing technology and advanced metering for managing energy reliability and efficiency.

Island Energy will deploy Landis+Gyr’s Revelo grid sensing meter, which delivers access to cloud-based software applications using high resolution grid data to enable load disaggregation, voltage management, outage management and overall situational awareness in real time.

“We are currently supporting a variety of electrification and resiliency initiatives that will require enhanced distribution grid data,” said General Manager Jonathan Tibbetts. “We chose the Revelo platform and its proven high waveform sample rate capabilities to proactively enhance detection of distribution anomalies improving our storm readiness for improved outage and restoration capabilities.”

Based in the Cayman Islands, Island Energy provides electric service to 2,500 customers across both Cayman Brac and Little Cayman islands. The utility is in the process of upgrading technology across its grid to better support reliability and further integration of renewable energy sources.

Revelo’s unique features support a variety of next generation AMI use cases to assist utilities with flexible grid management, including support for transportation electrification, distributed energy resources and circuit level capacity management. More than 5.5 million Revelo sensing meters are under contract and being deployed in North America.
