Smart meters offer the possibility to read out data on electricity consumption every 5 seconds via the customer interface. Such real-time data is the basis for innovative solutions such as those offered by the Swiss energy start-up aliunid for energy suppliers and their corporate and private customers.
Together with aliunid, Landis+Gyr carried out a suitability test of the aliunid GATEWAY for the household meter Landis+Gyr E450, Series 4 and Series 5 (interface: wired mbus, optical interface) for the collection of real-time data. Together, the two companies were able to demonstrate successful configuration and operation.
"Landis+Gyr supports solution providers for real-time applications that build on existing smart meters and contribute to the Energy Strategy 2050. This creates additional added value for electricity consumers that goes beyond the primary purpose of automated energy metering and billing," explains Dr Christian Zaugg, Head of the Business Unit Switzerland at Landis+Gyr. "We are very pleased that, thanks to the cooperation with Landis+Gyr, we will be able to offer a tested solution for the energy world of tomorrow," adds Dr David Thiel, CEO of aliunid.
Combined with an aliunid GATEWAY, the smart meter expands its potential beyond reading every 15 minutes for billing purposes and becomes a real-time electricity tachometer. The aliunid GATEWAY supports the conventional data interfaces and transmission protocols and is part of aliunid's modular range of solutions. The start-up aliunid combines a decentralised, private cloud solution (100% Swiss Internet of Things) with customer-friendly browser and smartphone applications. Companies and private customers can thus see their consumption live and save energy in a targeted manner and also obtain climate-friendly electricity via their suppliers.
The Landis+Gyr meters meet the requirements of the Swiss Electricity Supply Ordinance, in particular the specifications for an encrypted customer interface, in order to comply with the highest data protection requirements. Configuration, support and compatibility with the real-time solutions are the responsibility of the relevant solution providers, operators, partners or energy suppliers. Landis+Gyr works with various development partners and grid operators to enable innovative services, solutions and added value from the smart metering rollout for Swiss electricity consumers.
The aliunid GATEWAY can be used to read a variety of different meters. For example, the connection to the popular E650 / ZMD 410 industrial meter via the IR interface was successfully tested by aliunid in the field. The use of the aliunid GATEWAY by companies and private customers requires internet access and a power connection. Technical specifications: https://support.aliunid.com/portal/de/kb
