Manchester, UK – October 21, 2024
As of 13 March 2025, Landis+Gyr no longer offers EV charging solutions as part of its EMEA portfolio. This press release reflects the portfolio at the time of publication.
The specification provides comprehensive criteria for making EV charging more inclusive, addressing aspects such as location, height, space requirements, and other physical characteristics to ensure accessibility for all users. The UK Government has integrated accessibility considerations into its EV infrastructure planning policies and strategies. Local authorities seeking to access the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, are required that their EV charging infrastructure complies with PAS 1899 guidelines and standards.
Incorporating PAS 1899 is essential for Local Authorities when planning or upgrading EV charging networks, as it ensures that all new infrastructure meets accessibility guidelines and promotes inclusivity. The Department for Transport (DfT) and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) have underscored the importance of accessibility in their guidance related to accessing the LEVI Fund. Aligning EV infrastructure projects with PAS 1899 not only enhances the chances of securing LEVI funding but also contributes to building a fully inclusive national EV charging network.
Recognising the importance of making technological advancements accessible to all, Landis+Gyr has updated the INCH Duo charger to meet the socket height criteria specified in PAS 1899. The upgrade includes adjusting the height and positioning of charging outlet sockets at both the minimum and maximum allowable heights to give options to all users. Additionally, the user interface and contactless payment terminal is within the required height according to accessibility guidelines, making the charger easier for everyone to operate.
By adhering to PAS 1899, our goal wasn't just to meet the guidance criteria, but to offer the market a product that truly removes accessibility barriers and supports a fully inclusive user experience.
Mark Coley, Head of Market Development, comments “our decision to adhere to the PAS 1899 guidelines not only strengthens our market position but also underscores our commitment to fostering an EV infrastructure that is both widely accessible and environmentally responsible. We believe that the future lies in universal design, and by prioritizing accessibility in today’s EV infrastructure, we enable people with disabilities to participate fully and independently.”
